Meet the Maker
I’m Tsedey, the maker behind Elelta Bijoux. My name means “Springtime” in Amharic, the language of Ethiopia. My designs are a reflection of the ever-changing woodlands, capturing the spirit of new spring growth with delicate leaves and blossoms.
My journey into jewellery-making began in 2002, when I took evening classes at East Berkshire College. What started as a personal passion soon grew into something more. In 2014, my husband Gareth and I decided to leave our day jobs behind and move to France, where we opened a small craft shop, workshop and B&B. There, surrounded by nature, I continued to develop my silversmithing skills and found a style that felt truly my own. Winter months, when it was quieter, gave me space to teach and also explore materials in new ways, working with vibrant enamels, resin-encased woven fabrics, and carefully selected semiprecious stones. For special commissions, I also had the joy of creating in gold. When the pandemic closed our shop, I turned to silk painting, inspired once again by the colours, shapes, and textures that have always fuelled my jewellery designs. Silk scarves and hand-painted cards soon became a natural extension of my creative world.
In 2023, we returned to the UK and settled in Buckingham to be closer to family. Since then, I’ve enjoyed reconnecting with a local creative community, taking part in markets, exhibiting at Bucks Art Weeks 2024 and 2025. I had also had my jewellery exhibited at Obsidian Art Gallery during The Art of Ed Org 2024 Exhibition. Currently, you can find my jewellery at Church Lane Gallery, Banbury.
Today, working from my home studio, I continue to design and make jewellery that captures the changing seasons, the textures of the natural world, and the quiet moments of beauty that inspire transformation.
Much of my inspiration comes from nature and the promise of new beginnings. My jewellery draws from the changing seasons and the enchanting beauty of the woodlands around us, from textured bark and unfurling leaves to the delicate blossoms of spring. Each piece is lovingly hand-crafted in sterling silver, carefully shaped and finished by hand.
For me, jewellery-making is more than creating something to wear, it’s about telling stories, expressing creativity, and bringing ideas to life in a tangible, wearable form. Each design serves as a gentle reminder to slow down, notice the natural world, and find beauty in life’s simple moments.
